We custom-build from solid sustainable kiln-dried local alder in Portland, Oregon. We make custom sizes and finishes of every piece we build, and we allow local pickup, or we can include delivery within 100 miles of zip code 97202 at no extra charge.

The table shown is 68 x 36 x 30h. and wears a very light neutral antique-finish. It has large side and end overhangs to serve as a kitchen banquette table or breakfast nook table, and works well in front of a built in L-shaped upholstered bench. It has breadboard ends to finish off the planks at each end. It can comfortably seat 6. It is made of solid alder, our native northwest wood which is local to the pacific northwest. Alder is an excellent environmental choice for furniture building - it is fast growing and is a pioneer tree, helping to fix nitrogen and prepare clear-cut soil for re-colonization with native forest. The fine-grained, moderately hard and hand-plane-able wood is stable, easy to work, and is able to be coaxed with the right dyes and pigments into looking very similar to the aged European fruitwoods that were used on real antiques. These have a very durable living finish, which we developed. Artistic hand-distressing in our studio is a labor intensive multi-step process, done all by hand and with skill and care. This finish looks better and better over time as it ages and develops small marks or dings from daily use. Perfect for families with small children, the dings and marks that you add to what's already present will simply blend into the existing distressing. The deeply penetrating finish resists stains and will not develop rings with use. Also, these tables, in particular heavily-distressed ones such as this one, are frequently mistaken by the casual observer, for real antiques. See less
