Hand-built Indonesian terracotta figure lantern depicting Semar, the beloved clown-sage of Javanese wayang. Unglazed red earthenware with lively carved features and a rich natural firing patina. Designed as a vented lantern or incense burner: a large rear opening holds a candle or cone, while the mouth and side perforations allow light and smoke to glow through.
Likely village workshop, Java/Bali, c. 1960s–1990s. A charismatic piece of Southeast Asian folk art with great presence.
