The sculptural base depicts a young girl cradling a small dog, dressed in a crown and blue and yellow flowing gown. Is she a princess or a young girl playing princess? I love that we are left to interpret as we see fit! It gives the piece a distinctly storybook, whimsical, and imaginative character—very much like something from a classic children’s tale or a Roald Dahl–style world. I'm also smitten with how she appears in soft pastel glazes, and both she and the doggie share an expressive, hand-modeled face full of gentle personality. She stands atop a green, ribbon-decorated base with bow motifs, adding to the fairy-tale, nursery-room charm. The modeling and glazing have the feel of studio pottery, with a warmth and individuality that mass-produced lamps simply don’t have. The lamp retains its coordinating paper shade, hand-painted with small yellow fleur-de-lis motifs, and is topped with the original matching yellow ceramic crown finial, echoing the playful royal costume and completing the storybook theme. It is signed on the underside by the artist and the colors/composition point to Eastern European prewar pottery. See less

Vintage condition consistent with age and use. The ceramic figure and base show a few small, minor surface imperfections and light glaze irregularities, as expected for a hand-modeled studio pottery piece from the 1940s, with no significant chips or cracks noted. The paper shade shows age-appropriate staining and wear, which does not affect function but reflects its original, vintage character. The lamp retains its crown finial, harp, and socket, and the wiring is in good working order. Please review all photos carefully, as they form part of the description and best represent the condition.
