Antique Chinese - Ningxia Chinese Floral, Medallion Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1850s. This exceptional mid-19th-century weaving from the Ningxia region exemplifies the sophisticated artistry of Imperial Chinese textiles. The striking contrast of deep cobalt blue against the luminous ivory ground creates a visual clarity rarely matched in other antique rugs.

The field is densely populated with scattered floral sprays, stylized birds, and auspicious symbols, surrounding five distinct circular medallions. These complex designs are framed by a powerful, multi-layered border system featuring the classic Greek key fret, providing a structured counterpoint to the organic movement within the central panel.

The masterful use of color is perhaps the rug's most compelling feature. The rich, saturated indigo dyes are expertly balanced by the expansive, pale field, resulting in a highly decorative piece. Collectors seeking textiles that offer light and spaciousness are often drawn to the refined elegance of ivory color rugs.

Measuring approximately 9 feet by 5 feet, this piece presents an ideal gallery format, perfect for defining a seating area or enhancing a long passage. Its elegant proportions and timeless palette ensure that this Ningxia weaving remains a highly desirable example of 19th-century Chinese craftsmanship, suitable for placement as a distinguished hallway runner rugs or central area accent.
