Even if it’s not (so far) been the experience of the owner, this table subtly adds interest to an interior.
Such intricate carvings typically feature animals and plants, as with this tabletop. A peacock, the national bird of India with its long tail, struts. As does a leopard on the prowl, both set against an exuberant background of palms and assorted greenery.
These scenes are a hallmark of the now, highly collectible Anglo-Indian style that reaches back to the era of the British Raj, when the Crown ruled over the Indian subcontinent from 1858 to 1947.
