Handheld railroad signal lanterns allowed a quick direction to be given from the ground to the conductor. On the ground, the clear glass would allow the rail yard workers a lighted path. When communicating with conductors, the lenses would be turned to convey important signals, such as stop or go, especially in low visibility conditions.

Our Hand-held signal lamps are black metal with clear glass to the front and one side for each red and green. A lower well for kerosene and a side mechanism for securing them.

All original paint shows wear. The item has irregularities, scratches, and areas with rust. The clear glass on one of the lanterns is cracked. See less
