After the original marble bust from 1779, this carved limestone sculpture depicts Mademoiselle Marie-Madeleine Guimard. Our version, which was hand-carved circa 1815, is a very true rendition of the original by the Italian sculptor, Gaetano Merchi. Mademoiselle Guimard was an 18th-century ballerina who starred at the Paris Opera for a quarter of a century.
