George III Mahogany Secretary Bookcase
fourth quarter 18th century, the dentillated broken swan's-neck cornice above a like frieze over two doors, each inset with a mirrored panel, the wood framing being gold gilded, and opening to a shelved interior, the lower section fitted with a slant front opening to a variety of drawers and cubbyholes, centering a cupboard door over four graduated long drawers, raised on bracket feet.

My absolute favorite part of this secretary is that on the mirror plates, the acid from the hands that installed the mirror has eaten through the silvering, trapping the fingerprints from over 200 years ago. That is about as personal of a connection as you could ever hope for on a piece of antique furniture.

Locks are present; no keys. Portion of upper dentil molding missing. Drawers pulls replaced. They appear to be antique. Each side exhibits a tight vertical shrinkage crack that has been filled. less
