Loja is a city in southern Spain, in the province of Granada, Andalusia, located between Granada and Málaga, along the Genil River. It is known for its Moorish fortress, Baroque churches, and natural springs. Historically, Loja was a frontier town during the Reconquista and still shows strong Andalusian–Moorish architecture influences.
This painting was exhibited at a show of Rodriguez-Cabas' works at Salones Macarron in Madrid, Spain (December 1-15, 1965.) This is the translation from the Spanish text of the exhibition brochure:
By M. Sánchez-Camargo
We find ourselves in the Macarrón Gallery before the work of a Sevillian painter who has wisely distanced himself from the clichés of the “Andalusian genre” — that perilous mold into which so many fall when they try to capture Seville, the capital of the Indies, in all its color and vitality.
Rodríguez-Cabas has chosen his references with sensitivity, thinking in the language of painting itself. His vision of Andalusia is not sentimental or nostalgic; it lives within the paint, expressed through clarity and grace. His use of white — those challenging, elusive whites — gives his work both decoration and depth, rendering it sumptuously balanced and pictorially weighty, which is what truly matters.
This ample exhibition is a lyrical journey through “white Andalusia”: its luminous walls, quiet courtyards, and tranquil lives bathed in generous light — an enduring symbol of continuity and calm.

By José Prados López
An Andalusian artist, Rodríguez-Cabas, has brought to the Macarrón Galleries a collection of works rich in regional character and color — paintings filled with the sunlight and grace that distinguish the landscapes and villages of Andalusia from those of the north.
True to his Sevillian roots, Rodríguez-Cabas captures the charm of southern towns steeped in shadow and sun, beneath deep blue skies. His canvases radiate the rural joy and vitality born of that privileged light — an optimistic brilliance that floods the eyes and the soul.
Seville, Córdoba, Málaga, Cádiz, and Huelva are the provinces that inspire this exhibition of bright, immaculate paintings. His works convey the solemn stillness of the siesta while sustaining a pure, luminous whiteness — always animated by a cry of light that banishes the shadows.
Rodríguez-Cabas has earned our attention with a broad, mature understanding, a secure and confident technique, and an emotional depth that reveals both mastery and intimacy with his art.
