Modeled after the celebrated ancient sculpture traditionally attributed to the renowned classical sculptor Praxiteles, this artwork stands as a graceful homage to classical antiquity. The original marble masterpiece was discovered in 1792 during excavations at Gabii, Italy, later becoming part of the prestigious Borghese collection before finding its permanent home in the Louvre Museum in Paris, where it remains today under inventory number Ma 529.

Cast circa 1880, this bronze proof features fantastic lifelike details in high relief, from the naturalistic folds of Artemis’s short chiton and the poised gesture of fastening her cloak, to the serene, distant expression characteristic of ancient classical sculpture. Her softly waved hair, delicately held by a narrow headband, further enhances the statue’s quiet elegance.

The piece retains its original untouched dark brown patina, offering rich depth and character. Likely French in origin and unmarked, it weighs approximately 10 pounds and measures 15.5 inches high, 4.25 inches deep, and 5 inches wide.
