Featuring a rectangular brass plate on the top with the last name “Duffy” inscribed onto it. Belonging to a Miss Sally Ann V. Duffy out of New York City in the earlier 1900s. Miss Sally Ann V. Duffy was a resident of the famous East End Hotel during its glory days which was a women only occupancy.

This was to enforce safety and security to the women and their families who wanted them to be staying there. Many of the residents were often daughters of wealthy families and some residents even lived there for over 30 years before its close in 1975.

The East End Hotel, was founded In 1911 as a “home away from home” for genteel young women who came to the big city for work or study. It was situated at 78th Street and Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive featuring a 360‐bed hostelry.

In 1973 the hotel shifted its business strategy opening its doors to men. There were two reasons for “going co‐ed”: the nudge of Federal anti-discrimination laws and the alarming jolt of financial hard times.

Handles are still attached, wear and tear is appropriate for an item of this age and its use. Top cover features two broken corner seams allowing on the right side. Overall an incredible piece of history with a wonderful story about New York City in the earlier 1900s. See less
