He was innovative in his ideas of masculine movement, and was one of the most influential choreographers and dancers of his day. Ted Shawn created the Denishawn School with former wife Ruth St. Denis and later became known for his all-male dance company called "Ted Shawn and His Men Dancers." He was also founder and creator of "Jacob's Pillow" Dance Festival in Massachusetts. Ted Shawn wrote and published nine books that provided a foundation for Modern Dance.
