A serene and beautifully composed mid-20th-century Japanese four-panel folding screen (byōbu) that captures the harmony of art, craftsmanship, and nature. Each panel is wrapped in hand-applied silk paper with a soft, luminous finish and painted with elegant magnolia blossoms in bloom. The composition features two bluebirds—one perched among the branches and one in flight—a tranquil motif symbolizing peace, renewal, and balance. Signed with calligraphy and a red Autumn Garden (秋園) studio seal.
Framed in black lacquer and accented with hand-tooled brass fittings embossed with dragon and cloud motifs, this piece merges delicacy and strength. Along the top edge, four discreet sawtooth hangers allow it to be hung flush on a wall as a striking art panel or displayed freestanding as a traditional folding screen.
A timeless statement piece that bridges traditional Japanese artistry with mid-century sophistication—ideal for both minimalist and curated interiors.

I have circled the drop of paint in the photo for reference. • Several small punctures on the back, not visible from the front. • Minor surface creasing and a faint impression on one panel. • Brass fittings display a warm, even patina. Structurally sound and fully functional for both wall-mounted and freestanding display. less
