Miami Street Artist Jona Cerwinske Black, White Abstract Painting c2010
Offered for sale is a contemporary painting by the street artist Jona Cerwinske. Cerwinske is a Miami-based multidisciplinary artist recognized for his distinctive black-and-white graffiti-inspired work and spontaneous, stream-of-consciousness approach. Rooted in the subculture of street art, Cerwinske began his career creating murals and graffiti, becoming a pivotal figure in the transformation of Wynwood into an internationally renowned arts district.
Raised among Miami’s most influential graffiti crews and descended from a lineage of artists—his grandfather a pioneering cartoonist—Cerwinske developed a unique visual language blending satire, subculture, and high-contrast aesthetics. His work spans painting, digital media, and large-scale installations, often created without sketches or preplanning, resulting in organic, highly detailed compositions across unconventional canvases including cars, clothing, and architecture.
Cerwinske’s rise in the late 2000s garnered the attention of collectors and cultural icons alike, including musician Lenny Kravitz, now a close friend and mentor. His exhibitions across North America and Europe and expanding digital presence continue to challenge the boundaries between high and low culture.
Describing his practice, Cerwinske says: “I create in a marriage of two art forms that rebel against each other. I come from a generation when galleries did not accept anything from the street. And, vice versa, the street wanted nothing to do with the galleries. I had to experiment with what that looked like, combined.” Through this fusion, his work critiques mainstream values while celebrating the imperfect, the unfiltered, and the raw.
The artist recently sold a $1 million antique Steinway piano that he painted for Park Avenue Pianos. If you search for the artist on Artsy, his large monumental works sell for $35K. He is collected by Lenny Kravitz and Craig Robin.
