In the mid 1900’s Picasso and publisher Albert Skira collaborated on this book/artist portfolio to include limited edition prints, often from the artist’s private collection, that were unbound and could be removed and framed. Picasso was known for his art to be highly Innovative and experimental but evolutionary and groundbreaking in the development of cubism . His pieces reflected emotional depth and often chose darker color palettes combining them with sharp and loud contrasting colors to create tension in his color palette. Picasso was multifaceted and flowed between art styles from figurative realism to the unreality of surrealism and continued to explore new artistic realms.

Printed in Switzerland, Skira’s collections used a method called “tipping” to the color plates that were included with each publication. The print is attached by hand on the left edge and behind the plate on the page is the title, original size and date of the artwork.
