Beautiful antique 19th century Kashmir embroidered tapestry from approximately 1825. An incredible piece, rich in color with red earthy tones, yellows, greens, and blacks, completely sewn by hand in silks and wools, ornately embroidered in a traditional paisley design. The needlework technique known as Rafugar, is separately woven and joined to the field giving it a unique 3-dimensional quality.
Kashmir handmade shawls' are textiles that belong to the Indo-Persian style. Their original use was to mark every rite of passage in the Indian society; these shawls were status symbols in the Persian/Indian culture.
This tapestry is in excellent condition and has been repaired in areas and stitched to a backing to protect it and give it weight. Hung on leather stapes featuring a beautiful adjustable brass rod with finials.
This is a very rare collector's item. The pictures don't do it justice. In person, it is amazing! Ideal as a headboard for either a king or queen bed. Shown here is a California King bed. I have styled it with 3 different bed coverings over the years and it looked beautiful with all of them. I have included pictures here. It would look equally amazing above a sofa or entry piece.
Sold with the tapestry is the adjustable hanging rod, and two finials.
The actual tapestry is 70.5" wide and 62" tall.
The hanging rod is adjustable in length.
The larger Fortuny tassel is 3.75" W, 0.5 "D, ó 16"H with the other tassel slightly smaller, as seen in the detailed image are for sale for an additional price.

- Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
