A fabulous early example of the Swedish Dalecarlian horse or Dala horse, as they are more commonly known, named for the central region of Sweden where they come from. The Dala horse originated in the late 1500s as a children's toy and have gained popularity through the years and have now become a national symbol of Sweden. Based on the hand carved nature and paint wear, and examples documented in museums and from Swedish vendors, we're pretty confident this piece dates to the 1930s-early 1950s, but could be even older.
