"We count ourselves fortunate that Stewart Holbrook of Portland, Oregon has been able to set down for us these memories of his fellow citizen, Mr. Otis, surely one of the most original and vivid painters of our time. It may be asked in this day of television and radio why the public has had to wait so long for a volume which brings together for the first time both the masterpieces and the merely great paintings of this American master.
