This type of furniture, known as tatami-dai, was traditionally used in tea rooms and tokonoma alcoves to present art objects, flower arrangements, or ceremonial items.

Dimensions: height 8 cm, width 85.5 cm, depth 75.5 cm.

The surface features a handwoven tatami made of igusa rush, bordered with a black brocade edge decorated with a golden asanoha motif — a classic Japanese pattern symbolizing growth and protection. The warm-toned wooden frame adds a sense of balance and harmony to the piece.

On the underside, Japanese inscriptions are visible (前 “front” and 後 “back”), indicating the correct orientation — an authentic detail reflecting the precision and care of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Today, this piece serves as an elegant and versatile interior accent.
