This beautiful abstract painting is by French Postwar artist Michelle Michaux (1927- ). The painting is faintly signed “Michelle” in the upper right. As well, it is titled, dated and signed on the reverse. There is also a gallery label on the reverse from the Marshall Field Gallery in Chicago. The painting is in very good condition with no flaws to note. The original gold frame, while very nice, is only in fair condition with some chips on the outer edges. Please see pictures.

Born in Paris in 1927, Michaux studied with Monsieur Dargouges ( Prix de Rome ). There she received purely academic training and was taught to use charcoals, and to draw plasters, as well as to work from live models. She also took a course at the Beaux Arts in the engraving section. Her first exhibition was at a book shop opposite the Luxemburg Gardens. She has exhibited in the top galleries of Paris since 1952. Today, she is mostly known mostly for her portraits and figurative work. See less
