It is a … Read more This bold abstract painting has the strong gestures one associates with the best of Abstract Expressionist painting. It is a mid century work, done by Tom Ide (1919-1996) a painter who trained at the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1950s, then moved to San Francisco and became a notable proponent of Bay Area abstract expressionism. The painting measures 30 inches x 44 inches (31 inches x 45 inches framed) and is composed of oil on canvas. It also can be rotated to become an equally strong work on the vertical axis. Based on the style of pure abstraction and compared to other works I have seen by Tom Ide, I estimate this painting was probably done in the period from 1960 until 1962. It is in a simple wood frame. The painting is in good condition. The simple wood frame painted white is in fair/poor condition.
