The Goldscheider Porcelain and Majolica Factory (German: Goldscheider'sche Porzellan-Manufactur und Majolica-Fabrik) was an Austrian ceramics manufacturer specializing in decorative objects in porcelain, terracotta, majolica, and bronze.
In 1873, Friedrich Goldscheider moved from the Bohemian city of Pilsen to Vienna and founded the Goldscheider Porcelain and Majolica Manufactory in 1885. It became one of the most influential ceramic manufacturers of terracotta, majolica, and bronze objects in Austria, with branches in Pilsen, Paris, Leipzig, and Florence. For over half a century, Goldscheider created masterpieces of Historical Revivalism, Art Nouveau (Jugendstil), and Art Deco.
Famous artists such as Josef Lorenzl, Stefan Dakon, Ida Meisinger, and perhaps Austria's two most famous ceramists, Michael Powolny and Vally Wieselthier, worked for Goldscheider.
Over the course of three generations, Goldscheider created more than 10,000 different designs. from the very beginning, many of these won first prizes and gold medals at countless World's Fairs, exhibitions, and trade fairs.
Goldscheider figures are highly sought after by collectors around the world today and fetch astonishing prices at auction.
Josef Lorenzl (Vienna 1892–1950).
He began working at the Vienna Arsenal in the foundry, where he learned bronze casting techniques. Working in a studio on the company's grounds, he produced numerous bronze and chryselephantine sculptures. Lorenzl was fascinated by the female form and became famous for his curvaceous dancing girls with long, elegant legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl was also a talented ceramist and produced pieces for Goldscheider. This piece has an attribution mark,
