Rare blue lacquered ash desk and chair set designed by André Sornay, a cabinetmaker and designer from Lyon, circa 1955.
Produced by Sornay Meubles in Lyon, this set embodies the excellence of post-war French modernist furniture. The desk and chair are made of natural-stained ash and lacquered in a luminous blue. Their slanted legs and rigorous structure illustrate the rod assembly system, patented by Sornay in 1955, which allows for a construction that is both solid, removable, and aesthetically pleasing.
The contrast between the warmth of the wood and the vibrancy of the blue reveals the modernity of the design, where geometry and color complement each other. This set is a testament to the Lyonnais expertise and the rational and architectural vision of André Sornay, a major figure in 20th-century French design.
