Etching on laid paper Signed and dated in plate lower center: Dresde Oct. 1863 / Fantin Inscribed: Un morceau de Schumann Published by Cadart & Luquet, Éditeurs, 79 Rue Richelieu, Paris with the blindstamp of the Société des Aquafortistes, lower margin A refined and intimate interior scene by Henri Fantin-Latour, Un Morceau de Schumann (“A Piece by Schumann”) captures a moment of musical reverie with exceptional technical precision and psychological sensitivity. The composition portrays two figures—one playing the piano, the other the flute—immersed in the shared emotion of chamber music. Flameng’s mastery of line, texture, and tonal modulation brings depth to the soft light, the grain of the piano, and the quiet concentration of the musicians. Executed in Dresden in 1863, the work pays homage to the Romantic spirit of Robert Schumann, evoking both artistic devotion and domestic harmony. It is a particularly fine example of Flameng’s virtuosity as one of the foremost French etchers of his generation and a central figure of the Société des Aquafortistes. Fine, rich impression with full margins; faint overall toning and minor foxing at sheet edges, otherwise in very good condition. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
