Set of six Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern dining room chairs in solid turned Nordic oak with thick rope seats of dried seagrass (Lakeshore Bullrush).

Danish cabinetmaker Hans Dau (1871-1956) had his carpentry shop in the city of Ribe, Denmark. Among other things he made furniture for Ribe Cathedral, but he is also well known for this Dau-chair which was originally designed for the Townhall of Ribe in the 1930s.
The seagrass was harvested in nearby Ribe River and dried on the old zinc roofs near his workshop. All parts of the chair were handcrafted at the workshop. The braided seagrass rope was a popular choice as it was nice and warm to sit on.

This charming and rustic dining room set is a beautiful mix of Mid-Century Modern design and farmhouse style and is a great addition to any style.

Chairs (DxWxH): 42.5 x 50 x 90.5 cm

These chairs were made by hand and therefore no two chairs are exactly alike as well as there are natural variances in color. Beautiful uniform patina.

All chairs are in good condition with original woven seats. Small cracks and nicks. Cleaned and all joints have been checked and some reglued. Old repair to one leg. Frames are stable. Patina consistent with age use. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
