Wonderful and rare pair of Chinese vases with a beautifully raised, molded design on two sides. On one side is the figure of a Chinaman in traditional robe and conical hat and carrying a parasol. On the other is a vase with peonies and a bird of paradise. A raised pattern of branches and blossoms connects the two. The other two sides are plain with only the raised bark pattern of the orange glaze. There is a Greek key pattern around the base.
There are no markings or stamps on the undersides, which are white. Based on the orange glaze, I believe these are early California pottery pieces, possibly from the 1930s/40s. The insides are fired in black.
Both are in perfect condition with no cracks or chips. There are a couple of small black dots on the outside of each.
