This piece is rare in its oval shape, size and pattern as many of her available pieces are plates. It showcases her intricate line patterns, also known as "ghostline" (or grooveline) in a vibrant blue, green and gold and has her signature mark within the enamel on the underside.

Annmarie Davidson was a German-born American copper enamel artist, born in 1920. She was known for her Southern Californian modernist freeform abstract copper enamels. On many of her abstract compositions such as this, she also used a sgraffito technique, incising straight lines with the sharp point of a dart. These hand-drawn lines, which fan out from a central focal point, present a linear counterpoint.

Her works were exhibited in her lifetime at the Pasadena Art Museum, Long Beach Museum of Art, and the Cleveland Museum of Art, and are now widely collected.
