A monumental 1970s sculptural table lamp attributed to Karl Springer, featuring an intricate geodesic honeycomb lattice over a rich "burnt red" (wine) lacquered sphere. This heavy, bench-made piece is a masterwork of American Post-Modernism, balancing complex geometric form with a bold, high-gloss finish.
Provenance:
This exceptional piece boasts distinguished provenance, having been acquired from Lilley House, an estate built for a descendant of George L. Lilley, the 63rd Governor of Connecticut.
* Condition: Presented in excellent vintage condition. The lacquered surface shows minor surface imperfections (light "dings" and scuffs) consistent with its 50-year history and prestigious domestic use. Two minor missing ruboff from ceramic or glaze on top flat surface and one on ball itself, please refer to pictures. Lighting mechanisms and pulls work fine.
* Hardware: Features the original Leviton "Press" socket (Made in USA) and vintage non-polarized wiring, both in working order.
* Construction: Exceptionally heavy and substantial, indicative of Springer’s uncompromising luxury studio quality.
* Dimensions:

About the Designer:
Karl Springer (1931–1991) was a titan of American Post-Modernism, renowned for his "uncompromising" luxury and bold use of exotic materials. His bench-made studio pieces were a staple in the world's most sophisticated mid-to-late 20th-century interiors, curated for royalty, Hollywood icons, and prominent American families. This geodesic "ball" design remains one of his most iconic and sought-after sculptural forms.
