Here is a lovely vintage desk in solid structural condition, with dings, scuffs and finish loss due to age and use. There is no label or maker's mark that I can find. I purchased the desk in the late 1970's at the Indianapolis estate sale of an elderly couple. That history, plus the style of the desk lead me to guess it dates to the 1920's - 1940's. The wood species appears to be mahogany, and I am guessing it was made in the United States, but I am not a qualified appraiser or antiques expert and cannot confirm this.
The 7 drawers all glide smoothly and the desk feels very solid, with no wobble or obvious joint separations. There is significant surface finish loss, mostly around the bottom trim and feet, however, there does not appear to be any veneer loss or damage to the veneer. The top is in very nice condition as it has been protected by a 1/2-inch custom glass top which was on the desk when I purchased it. The drawer pulls appear to be original and could be bronze or a nicely patinated brass.

All of the drawers fit and glide smoothly. There is no obvious loss or cracking of the veneer. The dings and scuffs appear to be to the surface finish; there are no gouges or missing trim pieces. The desk would definitely benefit from refinishing and would be a perfect candidate for lacquering if someone did not want to retain the stained wood look. Please look closely at the pictures as I have attempted to show the main areas of finish loss. Do not hesitate to request more information if needed. less
