A large and heavy hand-crafted carving of an Eland antelope that was carved in the Central African Republic. The antelope has a raised platform that has an etched pattern. The horns spiral in a matching pattern. The wood has been stained a rich reddish-brown color.
The back is flat suggesting that it is intended as a bookend. The base is flat and has no felt. The ears are attached.
A handwritten paper label on the base reads NGODI BEDOOMA FLORENI SCULPTEUR PEINTRE A KOZO MBRES R.C.A. 4/3/99.
MEASUREMENTS
14 ¼ in (36.2 cm) tall x 5 ½ in (14.0 cm) deep x 5 ¾ in (14.6 cm) wide. Weighs 2 lbs 15.0 oz.
CONDITION
There are no breaks, repairs, or cracks. There is a small nick on one of the ears that reveals the much lighter natural color. The very bottom edge of the base shows light wear.
