Signed Merle Izard (1928-?) oil paint oil masonite board of Wild Hollyhocks. Circa 1950-60. A sweet rendering of two white Hollyhock blossoms in a blue vase. Signed lower right, Izard and ink stamped and labeled on the reverse. Upper West Side, New York City studio ink stamp and pre-zip code (which also helps date the piece).
The framing treatment consists of a parcel gilt and green painted wood moulding. Good overall condition with minor cosmetic wear due to age. No visible paint losses or scratches. Some minor cosmetic wear to the wood frame, dings, and losses.
The approximate overall dimensions with the frame are 6.75" wide x .75" deep x 10.75" high. The approximate measurements of the masonite board are 4" wide x 8" high.

She was born 1928 in Mobile Alabama, educated in U.S.A. and abroad. She has attended The Ringling School of Art Sarasota, Florida, Arts Students League NYC., American Arts School, New York and The National Academy of Fine Arts.
She has exhibited at Oconce Library Wahalla, South Carolina - - Massillon Museum Massillon, Ohio -- Carver Museum, Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee Ala. Erie Public Museum Erie, Pa. and Montgomery Museum Montgomery Ala.
