Misch Kohn, Requiem, c. 1963 — Original Aquatint and Etching
Large-scale original aquatint and etching with chine collé by American printmaker Misch Kohn (1916–2003). This striking monochromatic composition incorporates references to philosophers and historical figures, including Plato, Marx, Kant, and Aquinas.
Other impressions of Requiem are held in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
The reverse bears an extensive handwritten inscription, attributed but not authenticated to the artist, referencing exhibitions, institutional collections, and the work's history. A pencil signature may be present beneath the mat.
Professionally matted and framed in a contemporary black frame. Appears to be in very good vintage condition; not examined outside the frame.
