In "Boats at Rest" he creates a quietly poetic harbor scene: the rigging and masts rendered in delicate cross-hatching, wet washes of aqua, ochre and rust applied by hand—inviting the viewer into a peaceful moment of maritime calm. The piece belongs to a small, numbered limited edition (168/350) and is hand-signed and dated by the artist (1965).

Newly framed in a modern black frame with archival matting and Tru Vue Museum Glass, it is ready to hang and enjoy.

Jean Carzou’s works enjoy a strong following, having been bought & sold at major auctions across the globe such as Southeby's and Christie's. He is known primarily for his nautical and architectural etchings. Moreover, Carzou achieved a notable philatelic milestone: in 1976 he became the first living French artist to have his work reproduced on a French postage stamp. In addition to his fine art practice, Carzou worked as an illustrator for literary works by authors such as Ernest Hemingway and Albert Camus. See less
