Opulent late 19th/early 20th century English George III style writing table or desk decorated in the Chinoiserie revival period of Europe. The desk features a knee hole style case with a slightly bowed front. The case is supported by elegant tapered legs ending with spade feet. The case is embellished with idyllic Asian scenes in parcel gilt over a dramatic Japanned black lacquer ground. The desk is fronted by five storage drawers having bat shaped patinated brass pulls. The desk has a desirable aged patina commensurate its age and use. The lacquer has natural age cracks and craquelure finish with small losses as seen in photos. The case is sturdy and solid with excellent joinery and craftsmanship having older repairs. The reverse side is unfinished and painted matte black.
