Up for your consideration is 孙思邈 (Sūn Sīmiǎo), a renowned Chinese physician and Daoist from the Tang dynasty, often referred to as the "King of Medicine" (药王). The figurine depicts him surrounded by symbols and figures related to his life and legends.
The main figure is Sun Simiao, distinguished by his official's attire, beard, and compassionate expression. There are a dragon on the top and tiger on the bottom. The dragon and tiger are a prominent pairing in Chinese mythology, often representing the complementary forces of yin and yang. They also represent the dual cosmic forces of water (dragon) and wind (tiger). In the context of Sun Simiao, the dragon and tiger are said to have been his companions, symbolizing his mastery of medicine and his ability to tame wild forces.
Also Sun Simiao is frequently depicted with children, symbolizing his role as a healer and his dedication to the well-being of all people.
This sculpture was made from porcelain in about 1950s with very good vintage conditions.
