A finely crafted antique German salt-glazed stoneware jug from the Westerwald region, celebrated for its gray clay and cobalt-blue decoration. The hand-thrown body features raised vertical panels of stylized tulips and lattice motifs, separated by ribbed borders and finished in cobalt slip beneath a clear salt glaze.
The jug retains its original pewter ring lid, complete with broad circular handle and hinge mount, uniting functional tavern design with decorative artistry. The underside is incised “HP / R-7597,” a typical mark of the Höhr Pottery workshops active in Höhr-Grenzhausen during the late 19th century—renowned for export-grade stoneware of exceptional quality.
Dimensions: approx. 13″ H × 7″ W
Condition: Excellent antique condition; no chips, cracks, or repairs. Pewter lid shows gentle patina consistent with age.
An authentic example of Westerwald craftsmanship—substantial in weight, beautifully balanced in form, and richly glazed in the classic gray-and-blue palette that has defined German pottery for centuries. A striking display piece for curated pottery collections, farmhouse kitchens, or European-inspired interiors.
