About the Artist: James Ulmer (b. 1981) is an American artist known for his minimalist, almost childlike depictions of figures, animals, and everyday objects. His work is characterized by simple lines, flat colors, and a playful approach to composition, drawing inspiration from folk art, cartoons, and outsider art traditions. Ulmer's paintings and drawings often convey a sense of innocence and humor, while subtly addressing themes of human connection and physicality. This can be seen in his simple but dynamic portraits of muscled figures and baseball players, and in more abstracted images of figures, interacting with each other in bright and cheery compositions. He studied at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and lives and works in Brooklyn, NEw York. He has had solo exhibitions at Eighteen, Copenhagen; The Pit, Los Angeles; The Hole, New York; and PM/AM, London.
