Each chair is … Read more A grand set of twelve mid-19th century French Louis XIII style dining chairs, sourced from Provence, France. Each chair is hand-crafted from solid walnut and features a rectangular spindle-back with turned uprights and a rounded top rail. The square seats are fitted with cane and raised on turned front legs joined by matching spindle stretchers, the back legs slightly splayed for support. All twelve chairs were made by the same artisan workshop and present as a cohesive set. Six chairs retain their earlier integrated cane seats, while six were adapted at a later stage with newly constructed cane seat panels. The adaptation was carefully executed in keeping with the originals, and the set remains uniform in design and presentation. The walnut frames display a warm tone with natural patina. Each chair has been structurally revised in our workshop, ensuring they are solid and stable. Surfaces were gently polished with wax, preserving the character of the aged wood. Cane seats remain intact and usable, showing light wear consistent with age. A rare matched set of twelve, offering both presence and practicality for a long dining table or to be divided into smaller groupings.
