Elegant late 19th-century French Louis XV-style giltwood bergère, newly priced to sell and well-suited for both traditional and transitional interiors.
This finely carved French armchair features a richly detailed giltwood frame with fluted legs, rosette blocks, and beaded edging, displaying a warm, mellow patina that reads primarily as a soft brown tone with subtle gold undertones, with traces of red bole beneath the original gilding. The chair’s deep, upholstered sides and loose seat cushion provide comfort without sacrificing formality.
Upholstered in a charming pale green-gray gingham fabric delicately embroidered with small multicolor flowers, this bergère embodies both refinement and warmth — a classic Louis XV silhouette softened by country-house charm.
An extra removable cushion is placed beneath the seat cushion for added comfort and fullness.
Provenance: This piece originally belonged to the seller’s great-grandmother’s family in France and has remained in the same family for generations. Its age, craftsmanship, and well-preserved condition reflect both its quality and long, careful stewardship.
Condition: Excellent structural integrity; the original finish shows gentle wear consistent with age and use, with areas where the warm underlying tones and red bole subtly show through, adding to its authentic antique character.
A versatile and authentic statement piece—ideal for a sitting room, bedroom, or study, where it can serve as an inviting reading chair or decorative accent.
Shipping can be arranged directly through Chairish, which offers white-glove delivery options for larger pieces. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
