Striking antique English copper milk canister with its original matching drop-in copper lid, steel wire bail, and turned wood handle. This tall, elegant vessel measures 14" high × 6.25" diameter at base and showcases fine hand craftsmanship with rolled rim and original side supports.
Construction & Craftsmanship:
Expertly formed from heavy-gauge, hand-rolled copper sheet with a dovetail-joined seam and broad hand-riveted strap brackets securing a steel bail handle with turned wood grip. The rolled rim and drop-in lid are classic Edwardian features, while the distinctive twin strap mounts reflect Romany Gypsy coppersmith techniques of the period — a detail seldom seen outside early-20th-century English itinerant metalwork.
Comparable examples have been attributed to Romany Gypsy coppersmiths working in the UK during the Edwardian era (1901–1919), known for distinctive hand-wrought forms and practical beauty.
The canister shows light surface wear, a small dent on the base, and a minor ding at the shoulder, consistent with honest age and use. The lid fits properly, with gentle waviness along its edge. Unpolished patina retained; seams appear sound but has not been water-tested.
An exceptional decorative piece for farmhouse, English country, or industrial-style kitchens — or as a collector’s copper showpiece that still bears the warmth of its handmade past.
