George Benjamin Luks (1867–1933) was an American realist painter and comic illustrator. He was one of the key figures in the Ashcan School, a group of artists who depicted scenes of everyday life in New York City, particularly among the working class. Born in Williamsport, he attended Philadelphia to study art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and studied in Europe in the late 1800s. Luks was known for his boisterous personality and for finding his art subjects on the rough-and-tumble streets of the city. His work can be found in many museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
