A molded blue and white porcelain plate with a scalloped edge that has been decorated in an early cobalt blue transferware design of a dragon and phoenix.
The cobalt is a nice dark blue with a body glaze of bluish tinged white. The plate has a scalloped edge at the mouth with ribs traveling down to the central well. The design is of a dragon on one side and a phoenix on the opposite side, both flying in the clouds. The dragon has the pearl of wisdom in one claw. The central well has a foliar design that looks like a mon. The underside has three decorations of peonies.
The foot is shallow and unglazed. There is a Chinese reign mark, written in Zhuanshu script, in the center of the base.
MEASUREMENTS
9 ½ in (24.1 cm) diameter x 1 ½ in (3.8 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 2.1 oz.
CONDITION
There are no chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs. There is wear on the ribs in the well, as these are slightly elevated. The color is bright and deep.
