Signed … Read more GORGEOUS AMERICAN JACQUARD COVERLET DATED 1854 DIMENSIONS About 90" x 74" DESCRIPTION Beautiful woven jacquard coverlet by George Heilbronn. Signed and dated in the corners "FANCY / COVERLET / WOVEN BY G. / HEILBRONN / LANCASTER O. / 1854." Floral motif with grape clusters, foliage, doves, fanciful sunburst flowers, etc. Central seam. Slightly fringed edge. The Heilbronn family of weavers arrived in New York City in 1833 from Havre, France. Mathias was the youngest of four brothers. Some time before 1840, the family moved to Erie County, New York, and the brothers moved at various times to Ohio. George (born in 1811) bought three looms from his brother John Jacob, and produced coverlets from at least 1843 to 1855 in Lancaster, Fairfield County, Ohio. CONDITION Overall excellent. Colors bright. A small worn area near one edge, and some slight edge wear to the short edge fringes (all visible in the images).
