BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE BLUE TRANSFERWARE DINNER PLATE "ROMANTIC RUINS" PATTERN JAMES AND RALPH CLEWS STAFFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND CA. 1820 DIMENSIONS About 10" diameter DESCRIPTION Wonderful antique blue dinner plate by James and Ralph Clews of Staffordshire, England. Shows a walking man and a woman riding on a donkey, leaving classical ruins in the background. Impressed verso with "CLEWS WARRANTED STAFFORDSHIRE," and with a blue Clews logo reading "Stone China." Tripod drying marks plainly visible.
The Clews Brothers were active in Staffordshire from about 1818 to 1834.
CONDITION Overall excellent. No chips, dings, crazing or cracks. Rich bright blue color (all visible in the images). A FINE EARLY 19TH CENTURY FLOW BLUE ENGLISH DINNER PLATE IN GREAT CONDITION!
