Hand-carved from a single block of hardwood, this treen bowl bears the quiet scars of daily use—softened edges, tool marks, and a deep, smoke-toned patina. The underside shows two sets of period markings: a burnt/inked line reading close to “STOR.L” and a hand-cut inscription with initials and a date that appears to read “1837.” Personal ownership marks like these were common on domestic items in France, where bowls were used within shared kitchens and ovens.
A beautiful survivor from the early 19th-century, this bowl brings a sense of lived‐in history and utility to modern interiors.
