A very rare pair of mid-century Mexican folk art wall plaques depicting cherubs playing trumpets, each hand-formed from pressed tin and finished with brilliant colored lacquer directly applied to the metal. The translucent coatings in turquoise, cobalt, ruby, and golden yellow create a luminous effect while allowing the subtle texture of the tin to show through.
These handcrafted figures embody the joyful, decorative spirit of 1930s-1970s Mexican wall art. Both display light, authentic oxidation that enhances their vintage patina. One retains its original “Hecho en México” paper label on the reverse, confirming their origin. Each cherub has an integrated loop for hanging and presents beautifully as a pair above a console, in a child’s room, or as part of a celestial-themed wall display.
While tin folk-art cherubs exist, pieces of this scale, finish, and paired context are rarely offered. Part of a larger collection of Mexican tin folk art purchased through a Santa Barbara California estate.
