An original colored Cubist portrait by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), signed & numbered, from the Edition of 250 published by Harry N. Abrams, New York in 1969, accompanied with a letter & statement from the lithograhper & friend of Picasso, Marcel Salinas.
The artwork is a lithograph from Pablo Picasso's "Imaginary Portraits" series, created in 1969. The series was created when Picasso, at 87 years old, was inspired by sheets of brown corrugated cardboard that were used to pack his painting supplies. He used these as his "blank canvases" to create 29 gouache and oil paintings of imaginary figures.
He collaborated with lithographer Marcel Salinas to reproduce the paintings as a suite of twenty-nine lithographs. The lithographs were published in 1973 in a numbered edition. The complete edition size was 500, with 250 for France (marked with the letter "F") and 250 for the American market and the rest of the world (marked with the letter "A").
This lithograph is from the American edition of 250 and is signed "Picasso" and numbered
"A 150/250". This work was number two of 29 such portraits created by Picasso in 1969, top left in the plate it reads "19. 3. 69. Ⅱ"
The artwork is accompanied with a very personal letter from Marcel Salinas (an successful artist in his own right) who was one of very few artists to collaborate with Picasso, he was the lithographer for Picasso's works. There is also an original typed statement from Salinas outlining his artistic career and his collaboration with Pablo Picasso
This artwork is in very good condition, well framed & under glass, a unique opportunity to have all the paperwork from Picasso's lithograher. This iconic cubist portrait by Pablo Picasso is ready to take pride of place on your wall.
