Pair of Dorothy Draper for Grosfeld House Hollywood Regency Armchairs with Bleached Mahogany Frames
A truly stunning pair of Hollywood Regency armchairs designed by the legendary Dorothy Draper for Grosfeld House, circa 1940s–1950s. These iconic chairs embody the glamour and sophistication of the era, with a sculptural silhouette that draws from French neoclassical influence, all through Draper’s signature bold and theatrical lens.
The carved solid bleached mahogany frames have been professionally refinished and feature exquisite details:
• Swag-back drapery-style carvings
• Reeded front legs
• Sweeping French-style arms reminiscent of Louis XVI design
The result is a beautiful blend of formality and flair — a hallmark of the Hollywood Regency movement.
Recently reupholstered in a soft peachy burnt orange velvet (reads as a light rust in some lighting), the fabric is in fair condition with a few minor blemishes and scuffs — visible in photos. A professional cleaning could go a long way, or consider reupholstering in a fabric of your choice to make them your own. Either way, the frames are in excellent condition and ready for decades of future use.
These chairs are generously scaled and incredibly comfortable — perfect for a living room, bedroom sitting area, or statement foyer seating.
Additional Notes:
Photos were taken in multiple lighting conditions (cloudy and full sun) to best capture the color variance in the velvet and the tone of the bleached mahogany.
