The Rose-Back Settee was hand crafted by a slave in 1848 on a farm in Raywick, Kentucky. This was 15 years before the Emancipation Proclamation was declared, so slavery was still legal. The cushion was and is quite firm because it is stuffed with horse hair.
It is a beautiful statement piece and would love for someone enjoy it as I have over the years!
