A 19th century French Provincial folding farmhouse table in solid maple, sourced in Provence, France. The piece has been structurally restored and refinished in our workshop, ensuring stability for daily use while preserving the warm patina of age. The rectangular top is fitted with hinged leaves that fold back to reveal a central inset of hexagonal terracotta “tomettes.” These tiles, a hallmark of Provençal design, were traditionally built into kitchen tables for function as much as beauty — providing a cool, heat-resistant, and durable surface for hot pots, bread-making, and daily work. The combination of maple and fired clay captures the rustic ingenuity of the region. As is typical of antique farmhouse construction, the folding leaves show slight warping and unevenness from generations of use. This does not affect the table’s functionality and only enhances its authentic, timeworn character. When closed, the piece works as a slim console table, ideal in a hallway or against a wall. Fully opened, it transforms into a generous dining surface anchored by cabriole legs with scroll feet and shaped scalloped aprons, all recalling Louis XV provincial influences. Original iron hinges remain intact, with light oxidation consistent with age. A versatile and rare find, this folding console-to-dining table embodies both the utility and rustic elegance of 19th century Provence.
